“When people think of Katanga they think bad things. Because it’s a slum they think we are all prostitutes or drug addicts. But if you come and get to know us you will see we are good people and we are just as good at making clothes as the people in better places.”
Over the course of making the Barefoot in Business documentary, we met this amazing group of tailors in Kampala’s Katanga slum. We are delighted to be working with them to produce this inaugural collection along with the equally talented team at Mazuri Designs. This is an initiative from the United Nation’s Girl Up Uganda project. They share our passion for fashion and equality. With every Barefoot in Business bag you buy, you’re not only helping support these individual tailors but also helping support Girl Up’s truly transformational work in youth education and empowerment across the Uganda.
