Here at Barefoot in Business we’re on a mission to empower our fellow female entrepreneurs in Uganda and inspire the next generation here in the UK. We’ve teamed up with some of Britain’s top women in business to create a free, virtual masterclass series for schools that trains pupils in the basics of business and enables them to curate and sell their very own tote bag collection made by our talented team of tailors in Uganda.

This is a free program for schools funded through Barefoot in Business bag sales and sponsorship from individuals and organisations who share our passion for education and equality. Once you sign up, we’ll match-make you with a sponsor in your local area and tailor the program to your school’s individual priorities and schedule.

We run the program throughout the year and provide you with all the necessary resources to deliver the 8 x 1 hour sessions at a time and pace that suits you best. This a cross-curricular project that covers everything from numeracy to critical thinking, career guidance to ICT - all the while helping increase confidence and providing pupils with a unique insight into the world of work. It can be delivered as an in-class activity for the whole class or an after-school group for specially selected students - it’s entirely up to you.

THE IMPACT

I would definitely recommend this project to other schools. It has been great to give the children real life experiences while meeting the outcomes of the Scottish curriculum. The class have really enjoyed themselves while learning lots.”
— Miss Allen, Chirnsyde Primary School
I thought that I would not like business but I do! I enjoyed selling the bags the most. I discovered that I was good at talking to people.
— Aurora, I Love Uganda Bags
I liked selling the bags because I really liked explaining the backstory and different things about the bags. I really like being able to share my knowledge and show that I was educated and knew about the bags. It feels really good when you sell a bag and feel happy for yourself.
— Lorena, Totally Totes
Before this project I didn’t really know anything about business. Thanks to this project I have got better at negotiating and learned what an entrepreneur is. To be a successful business owner you need to keep trying even if you don’t get your first sale.
— Ruby, I Love Uganda Bags
If I had to sum up this project in one word it would be amazing!
— Anusha, Rangi Be Rangi team
It provides a wonderful opportunity for pupils to learn about how to run a business and experience this themselves first hand. If I had to sum up this project in one word it would be inspiring!
— Miss Vickers, Chirnsyde Primary School
I would definitely recommend becoming a Barefoot in Business sponsor. You get back more than you give, it feels good to be part of something bigger and to encourage the young businesswomen of the future to learn from our experiences.
— Nicola Crosbie, Moran Wealth Management
